You should replace the UV lamp in your UV unit every year. Although the lamp may still burn, it no longer emits the right UV radiation. Depending on your UV unit, you will need an energy-efficient PL lamp, a TL T8 lamp, or the latest-generation TL T5 lamp. Take the old lamp with you to the shop to ensure that you buy the right replacement.
